Home > About > Team Dyalog > Andy Shiers
Andy’s responsibilities cover Dyalog Ltd’s internal systems; he is involved with the development and QA processes as well as customer-raised issues.
Andy started using Dyalog in 1985, when he worked in the actuarial department of a re-insurance company. In 1987 he joined Dyadic systems to boost the support department (senior members of Dyadic still maintain that they hired him as payback for the grief he gave them in those two *long* years!). For the next 15 years Andy continued with APL support, but also was responsible for the daily running of the IBM reseller arm of Dyadic, specialising in AIX systems and IBM Storage systems. In 2002 Dyadic Systems split into two companies and Andy moved away from APL along with the rest of the IBM reseller arm.
Seven years later, Andy was asked to help Dyalog Ltd sort out problems for a major customer. While on site, he was asked whether he wanted to have a word with the new management team about re-joining Dyalog Ltd. He leapt at the chance and the rest is history (and a lot of bug reports !)
These days Andy spends much of his spare time being Gramps to an ever-increasing brood of grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
We promote a culture where innovation, fun, pride, and acceptance is part of our everyday life. We come from a variety of backgrounds, and we learn from each other’s diversity.
…or perhaps even join the team!
